Announcing the Dr. Greg Kawchuk CARL Endowment Fund

The Chiropractic Association of Alberta is proud to announce the establishment of the Dr. Greg Kawchuk CARL Endowment Fund — a lasting tribute to the extraordinary contributions of Dr. Greg Kawchuk, Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta, and a global leader in chiropractic research and education.

A graduate of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (1990) and a former practicing chiropractor for 15 years in multidisciplinary care, Dr. Kawchuk went on to earn his PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Calgary. His groundbreaking work has spanned institutions including the State University of New York, the University of Calgary, and the University of Alberta, where he was named the inaugural Canada Research Chair in Spinal Function. In addition to his North American commitments, Greg Kawchuk was Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern Denmark for over ten years.

Dr. Kawchuk’s research has transformed our understanding of musculoskeletal pain, particularly back pain, through his leadership of the University of Alberta Rehabilitation Robotics Lab. His interdisciplinary team brings together experts from Rehabilitation Medicine, Medicine & Dentistry, Science, and Engineering to develop innovative technologies and to advance evidence-based programs like GLA:D Back and SelfBack.

Beyond his scientific achievements, Dr. Kawchuk has been a passionate mentor and international thought leader. In 2016, alongside Professors Jon Adams (Australia) and Jan Hartvigsen (Denmark), he co-founded the Chiropractic Academy of Research Leadership (CARL) — a visionary program that supports and nurtures the next generation of chiropractic researchers around the world.

The Dr. Greg Kawchuk CARL Endowment Fund will provide long-term funding to the CARL program helping strengthen international research and leadership in chiropractic and ensuring Dr. Kawchuk’s legacy continues to inspire innovation, collaboration and excellence for years to come.
